Janetta Brown, PhD

Janetta Brown, Ph.D. is an innovation fellow at Indiana University School of Medicine within the Center for Health Innovation and Implementation Science. Dr. Brown earned two Bachelors of Science degrees in Mathematics and Industrial & Systems Engineering from Spelman College and North Carolina A&T State University respectively as part of a dual degree engineering program. Dr. Brown was awarded a doctoral fellowship to pursue her PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering as a Title III Fellow and Chancellor’s Distinguished Scholar at North Carolina A&T State University and graduated summa cum laude in 2020. Dr. Brown’s research focuses on changing the course of life for families affected by dementia and joined CHIIS to continue the trajectory of empowering dementia caregivers through mobile health. Dr. Brown has dedicated the past 9 years of experience in human factors, industrial and systems engineering, and human-computer interaction towards user-centered mobile health technology interventions towards personalized chronic disease management. Dr. Brown now manages research studies that integrate formal and informal health care to provide a holistic approach to caregiver social support.

Dr. Brown is also an award-winning researcher, engineer, and designer recently nominated for the 2021 HFES Healthcare Technical Group Robert L. Wears Early Career Award for her integration of human factors in healthcare and scholarly contribution to research and practical impact. As an agile, multi-linguistic conductor, Dr. Brown’s work has been applied throughout the healthcare, aerospace, and computer manufacturing industries allowing her to thrive at the intersection of industry, academia, and healthcare. As an affiliate scientist with Regenstrief Institute, Inc., Dr. Brown’s passion to empower the under-served and under-supported families affected by Dementia has led her to take the road less traveled through a new venture with entrepreneurship as a Regenstrief Venture Fellow! Dr. Brown’s goals are to continue to invest in and create scalable solutions that empower end users by improving user experience quality!
